Tesla Motors has significantly broadened the operational scope of its autonomous ride-hailing service Robotaxi while implementing notable price increases. Following its initial limited trial launch in Austin, Texas on June 22, where rides were uniformly priced at $4.20 (approximately ¥30.20) regardless of distance, the electric vehicle pioneer has now doubled its service coverage within the city.
The expanded operational territory now surpasses Waymo's approved Austin service area by 3.9 square miles (approximately 10 square kilometers). Concurrent with this geographical expansion, Tesla has raised Robotaxi's flat-rate fare to $6.90 per trip (around ¥49.50), marking a substantial 64% increase from the original pricing structure.
Beyond service area enlargement and pricing adjustments, Tesla has upgraded the Robotaxi application with enhanced functionalities, including more intelligent search capabilities. These developments represent critical advancements in Tesla's commercial autonomous mobility strategy, transitioning the service from restricted trials toward broader monetization.
