Global specialty materials company Celanese has announced that Aisan Industry's US subsidiary in Kentucky is now utilizing a polyoxymethylene resin produced by Celanese from captured carbon dioxide to manufacture fuel pump modules for a major North American automaker. This achievement represents a significant milestone, underscoring the growing market acceptance of Celanese's carbon capture and utilization (CCU) POM material in the automotive sector.

Celanese employs CCU technology to transform captured CO2 into high-performance POM polymers, a material distinguished by a lower product carbon footprint and a high proportion of recycled content. The POM ECO-C solution is a 'drop-in' material, enabling Aisan Industry to deliver more sustainable components without any compromise on product performance. This assists automakers in meeting their sustainability objectives in a practical and efficient manner.

A senior vice president at Celanese Engineering Materials stated that the company's capability to convert waste CO2 into high-performance polymers helps customers achieve their sustainability goals. The POM ECO-C material translates technology into practical solutions while preserving performance and quality, all without necessitating changes to existing designs or production processes.

Aisan Industry is a manufacturer of fuel pump modules. In September 2022, the company acquired Denso's fuel pump module business, further strengthening its market position in fuel system products. Its primary product offerings include fuel pump modules, fuel pumps, throttle bodies, carbon canisters, and other engine components.

POM is a high-performance engineering plastic known for its high rigidity, thermal stability, excellent sliding properties, and wear resistance. Celanese has previously secured carbon footprint certification from the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) for its POM ECO-C grade products under the Hostaform and Celcon brands. This certification provides third-party validation for the company's claims regarding reduced product carbon footprint.

Headquartered in Dallas, Celanese is a Fortune 500 company with over 11,000 employees globally and reported net sales of $9.5 billion in 2025.
