Wells Fargo Lowers Exxon Mobil Rating

Wells Fargo has downgraded Exxon Mobil (XOM) to equal weight while keeping its price target unchanged at US$182 per share.

Against Wednesday's closing price of US$162.75, that target still implies upside of roughly 12%.

The Wells Fargo analyst offered the following view on the oil major: Exxon Mobil posted solid overall operational stability in 2026, but ran into a number of timing-related factors and external headwinds, including damage at its Qatar project.

On that basis, we expect the frequency of production disruptions facing Exxon Mobil to decline, and its absolute valuation should move back toward our US$182 target.

The equal weight rating, however, reflects that its closest peers offer greater upside potential; at the same time, driven by the external environment and portfolio optimization, BP is undergoing a structural transformation, and Exxon Mobil's current valuation premium may narrow.
