Samsonite Reports Mid-Year Profit Decline While Revenue Shows Modest Growth

Samsonite (01910) has released its interim results for the first half of 2026, reporting a net profit attributable to shareholders of $90.9 million, representing a 23.1% decrease compared to the same period last year.

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, the company recorded net sales of $1.6806 billion, up 1.1% or $18.9 million from $1.6617 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. On a constant exchange rate basis, net sales declined by 0.7%. The weakening of the US dollar year-over-year had a positive impact on the reported net sales improvement.

The reported sales increase was driven by growth in the company's direct-to-consumer (DTC) channel, its Samsonite brand, and the lifestyle luggage category. However, sales during the period were adversely affected by ongoing conflicts in Iran and other parts of the Middle East, which created inflationary pressures, leading to weaker travel demand and reduced consumer confidence, particularly in North America.

Excluding net sales from the Middle East and India markets, which have been most severely impacted by the conflict, the combined net sales for the six months ended June 30, 2026, increased by 3.1% (or 0.7% on a constant exchange rate basis) compared to the same period last year. Basic earnings per share stood at $0.066.
