Shanxi Changzhi Lucheng District: "Golden Ginger" Unlocks New Path to Increased Income

As ginger enters its critical harvest season, the air is filled with bustling activity in Xicun Village, Lucheng District, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province. The "cooperative + company" joint model has transformed small ginger into a "golden industry," driving local employment and boosting rural revitalization.

Walking through the ginger plantation, rows of soil reveal plump ginger rhizomes that have grown for months. Villagers bend and weave through the fields, skillfully uprooting the robust ginger, shaking off the soil to expose its vibrant color and full shape.

Behind this thriving harvest lies a foundation of high-quality seed selection and scientific cultivation. Xicun Village grows premium Shandong yellow ginger, known for its large size, rich aroma, and dual culinary-medicinal value, making it highly sought-after in the market. To maintain soil fertility and improve land efficiency, the plantation adopts a "ginger + soybean" crop rotation system. After each ginger harvest, soybeans are planted to enrich the soil before the next ginger cycle begins—a smart arrangement that alternates cash and staple crops, significantly increasing land productivity.

Freshly harvested ginger is stored in temperature-controlled cellars under a "harvest this year, sell next year" strategy. This approach ensures quality while capitalizing on peak market demand, boosting profits. Reportedly, stored fresh ginger yields an 80% finished product rate. At the current market price of around 6 yuan per jin, this year’s ginger output is projected at nearly 60,000 yuan per mu—far exceeding traditional crop earnings.

The "cooperative + company" model effectively integrates technology, management, and market resources while creating numerous local jobs. Villager Zhang Lingping shared, "Since ginger farming started here, I’ve worked part-time without disrupting household chores, earning 100 yuan daily—it’s been great."

From premium seeds to market-driven operations, Xicun’s ginger industry paints a vibrant picture of rural prosperity, brightening villagers’ livelihoods.
