Ford Motor shares surged 6.78% in after-hours trading Tuesday after the automaker reported second-quarter results that handily beat Wall Street expectations and raised its full-year profit outlook for the second time this year.

The Detroit-based automaker posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.42, topping analyst consensus estimates of $0.35 to $0.36. Revenue came in at $48.3 billion, exceeding forecasts of approximately $47.2 billion, while adjusted operating profit reached $2.5 billion compared to the $2.1 billion analysts had expected. The strong performance was driven by robust pricing and resilient consumer demand for Ford's core lineup of trucks and SUVs, with CFO Sherry House describing customers as "quite resilient" despite inflationary pressures.

Ford lifted its full-year 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance to a range of $10 billion to $11 billion, up from its prior outlook of $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion. The raised forecast reflects expectations for a 0.5% increase in U.S. auto pricing this year, reversing an earlier assumption that prices would remain flat. The company also boosted its free cash flow guidance by approximately $1 billion, supported in part by an anticipated $500 million tariff refund payment expected this year. Despite posting a GAAP net loss of $1.3 billion—largely attributable to a $3.6 billion charge tied to the dissolution of its EV battery joint venture with SK Group and $500 million in EV program cancellation costs—investors focused on the stronger operational performance and improved outlook, fueling the after-hours rally.
