SK hynix's Pre-Market Plunge Signals Headwinds for Asian Tech Stocks at Open

Deep News
07/28

SK hynix shares are trading approximately 8% lower in pre-market trading, signaling that the sell-off in US chip stocks overnight is poised to spread to Asia's leading tech hardware manufacturers, dragging their share prices lower. For most of the first half of this year, SK hynix and Samsung led the Asian market with staggering price surges, but market observers had already judged this rally as unsustainable in the long term.

SK hynix shares are now gradually retreating after having surged as much as 132% since May. A suspected "fat-finger" error in pre-market trading briefly sent the stock plunging about 30%; even setting aside this short-lived anomaly, this highly volatile and popular stock in the Korean market is likely to exert greater downward pressure on related shares in Seoul and other regional markets. As of press time, Samsung Electronics is estimated to fall about 6% in pre-market trading.
