On April 15, a cross-border train loaded with new energy vehicles made in Chongqing departed from Tuanjie Village Station. It will pass through the Mohan Port and head directly to Vientiane, Laos, with a transit time of only five days. This represents a regular service facilitated by the Western Land-Sea Corridor, speeding up the export of vehicles from Chongqing.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and ASEAN. Over the past five years, freight volume on the China-Laos Railway has continued to grow, cross-border cargo volumes have expanded, and exports of new energy vehicles, photovoltaic products, and lithium batteries—often referred to as the “new three”—have increased rapidly. This railway has become an important achievement in deepening cooperation between China and ASEAN.

To ensure the efficient operation of dedicated new energy vehicle trains, the Chongqing Railway Logistics Center has collaborated with Xinglongchang Station to develop customized loading plans and opened a green channel. These measures address the high safety requirements for transporting vehicle batteries and the large size of the vehicles themselves. A “three priorities” policy—priority booking, priority loading, and priority dispatch—has been implemented.

Additionally, a coordination mechanism involving production, transport, and customs has been established with customs authorities and the Land-Sea Corridor operating company. Empty containers are delivered to factories in advance, and loaded containers are dispatched immediately, achieving a seamless connection from the production line to train departure.

After arriving in Vientiane, the new energy vehicles can be distributed across the Indochina Peninsula by road. This not only provides a stable channel for Chinese new energy vehicles to enter ASEAN markets but also supports several ASEAN countries in achieving their low-carbon transportation goals.

Looking ahead, the Western Land-Sea Corridor plans to offer customized solutions for more automakers, including dedicated whole-vehicle trains and express services for components. It will continue to optimize train routes and increase service frequency to help Chongqing-made new energy vehicles reach ASEAN countries efficiently.
