Amazon Web Services is accelerating its expansion into the defense sector through a series of initiatives designed to provide defense contractors with enhanced cloud computing and artificial intelligence capabilities. This development is viewed by the industry as marking the beginning of a "new era" for the military-industrial sector.

Recently, the US Department of Defense announced cooperative agreements with seven leading AI companies, including AWS. The objective is to deploy these companies' AI technologies within the Department's classified networks for lawful combat operations. The Pentagon stated that these agreements "will accelerate the transformation of the US military into an AI-centric fighting force."

Previously, AWS launched a specialized program to support development in the defense sector. In February of this year, AWS announced the "Warfighter Capability Accelerator," specifically targeting the Department of Defense, defense contractors, and research institutions. The program offers up to $50 million in AWS credits to support missions involving autonomous systems, AI battle management, and cybersecurity.

Concurrently, AWS is participating, alongside Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, in the modernization upgrade of the US Air Force's Cloud One platform. This contract, valued at $454.9 million, aims to accelerate the Air Force's secure deployment of cloud capabilities globally and establish a repeatable, secure cloud foundation.

Analysts point out that by introducing advanced cloud and AI capabilities into the defense sphere, AWS is building a new technological infrastructure for defense contractors. This trend is expected to reshape the technological landscape of the military industry.
