Chinese Brokerage Stocks Rise in Morning Trading Amid Regulatory Clarity and Market Focus on Tech Attributes

Chinese brokerage stocks saw broad gains in morning trading. At the time of writing, CSC (06066.HK) rose 5.04% to HK$11.88; CICC (03908.HK) gained 3.61% to HK$20.68; CGS (06881.HK) increased 2.8% to HK$8.08; and CITIC SEC (06030.HK) was up 2.04% to HK$26.06.

On the news front, on May 22nd, eight departments including the China Securities Regulatory Commission jointly cracked down on illegal cross-border securities activities, initiating investigations and issuing prior administrative penalty notices to Tiger Brokers, Futu, and Longbridge Securities. Furthermore, under the reforms of the STAR Market and the ChiNext board, the capital markets' sci-tech finance attributes have become prominent, with representative technology companies attracting significant attention in both primary and secondary markets. Reports indicate that ChangXin Memory Technology has begun its IPO tutoring process, while ChangXin Advanced Memory Technologies has seen an earnings surge, with these two domestic storage leaders sprinting towards listing. Post-equity penetration analysis estimates that Huaan Securities is projected to hold approximately 0.39% of ChangXin Advanced Memory Technologies' post-IPO shares, and China Merchants Securities is estimated to hold about 0.75%. Based on a target market capitalization of 2-3 trillion yuan, the estimated floating gains from these single investments are projected to be between 7.3-11.3 billion yuan and 14.4-21.9 billion yuan, respectively.

Guotai Junan Securities and Haitong Securities believe that the further standardization of cross-border securities business regulation is expected to guide some overseas capital back into compliant cross-border investment channels, benefiting the growth of cross-border businesses at high-quality leading brokerages. With current trading pressures having bottomed out, brokerage wealth management, investment banking, and investment businesses are accelerating their recovery amid the market upturn. Brokerage profits for the second quarter have reached historical highs. Coupled with the benefit of capital returning to high-quality leading brokerages' cross-border derivative and other businesses due to stricter cross-border regulation, there is optimism regarding the sector's valuation upside potential.
