Whirlpool's stock plummeted 19.44% in post-market trading following the release of its first-quarter financial results, which revealed a significant swing to a net loss and a sales decline.

The company reported a net loss of $85 million, or $1.43 per diluted share, for the quarter, compared to a profit in the prior-year period. Net sales fell 9.6% to $3.27 billion, missing analyst estimates. Management attributed the weak performance to a "recession-level U.S. industry decline," which it linked to the war in Iran.

In response to the challenging environment, Whirlpool announced it is suspending its common dividend to prioritize debt reduction, targeting over $900 million in paydown for 2026. The company's ongoing EBIT also dropped 79.6% to $44 million.
