Bank of China Reports Marginal Improvement in Net Interest Margin During First Half

On August 28, financial sector sources indicated that Bank of China announced its net interest margin for the first half of the year stood at 1.27%, marking a year-on-year increase of 1 basis point. The average yield on interest-earning assets declined by 30 basis points year-on-year, impacted by the repricing of domestic renminbi loans following the previous year's reductions in the loan prime rate (LPR) and by declines in market interest rates.

In response to downward pressure on interest rates, Bank of China stated that it has intensified proactive management, adhering to a strategy of coordinated volume and pricing development. The bank has continuously strengthened deposit cost controls, driving a 35 basis point reduction in the average payout rate on interest-bearing liabilities, which in turn supported a stabilization and recovery in the net interest margin. The average balance of domestic renminbi medium- and long-term loans and advances accounted for 69.34% of total domestic renminbi loans and advances issued, maintaining a relatively elevated level.
