First Coal Mine Subsidence Area Solar Project in Qinghai Province Connects to Grid

The first photovoltaic power project in Qinghai Province designed for the remediation of a coal mining subsidence area has been successfully connected to the grid.

This 30-megawatt solar installation, located in Mole Town, Qilian County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, was constructed by China Water Resources and Hydropower Fourth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. and represents a significant new step in Haibei's clean energy industry development, providing fresh green momentum for the region's industrial growth.

The project was developed by the China South-to-North Water Diversion Group Corporation. It consists of ten 3.0-megawatt power generation arrays, each equipped with a 300-kilowatt string inverter and a 3,000-kilovolt-ampere box-type step-up transformer.

The entire station has erected two 35-kilovolt power collection lines, which are connected to a newly built 35-kilovolt switch station on-site. The electricity is then transmitted via a 35-kilovolt external line to the Mole 110-kilovolt substation for unified grid integration and consumption.

As one of Qinghai's inaugural demonstration projects for the comprehensive management of coal mine subsidence areas, it pioneers a novel remediation model of "power generation above panels and ecological restoration below panels," enabling multi-purpose land use.

This approach revitalizes idle and abandoned industrial and mining land while continuously rehabilitating the local ecological environment, achieving a dual enhancement of ecological and economic benefits. It stands as a benchmark project for integrating county-level ecological restoration with new energy development.

Located in a high-altitude region, the project faced significant construction challenges and pressure. China Water Resources and Hydropower Fourth Engineering Bureau implemented scientific planning, detailed construction schedules, and dynamic optimization of human resources, materials, and equipment.

All construction activities were carried out in a standardized and regulated manner, with high-quality completion of pre-grid-connection inspections, ensuring the on-schedule achievement of the grid connection target with guaranteed quality and quantity.

Upon full operational capacity, the project is expected to generate approximately 58 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This will further expand Haibei's new energy installed capacity, stimulate the development of related industries and local employment.

While optimizing Haibei's energy consumption structure and solidifying the foundation of its clean energy industry, the project will provide robust green energy support for the region's high-quality economic and social development.
