A senior official from the Philippine government has stated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expects the central bank to step in as needed to curb fluctuations in the peso-dollar exchange rate.
During a regular press briefing at the presidential palace, Claire Castro, an undersecretary at the Presidential Communications Office, noted that the peso's weakness stems from a broadly stronger US dollar and rising international oil prices. "Looking ahead, we expect the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to act decisively based on available data and to intervene when necessary to reduce exchange rate volatility," Castro said.
She further added that the executive branch is committed to maintaining strict fiscal discipline and enhancing the efficiency of public fund utilization.
