The China National Intellectual Property Administration has recently announced the results of the 26th China Patent Awards, marking a historic achievement for Changchun City. The city secured one China Patent Gold Award (out of 30 nationwide), one Industrial Design Gold Award (out of 10 nationwide), one Patent Silver Award, one Industrial Design Silver Award, and three Patent Excellence Awards, achieving a remarkable "double harvest" of the two most prestigious accolades in a single year. The China Patent Award stands as the most authoritative and influential national-level recognition in China's intellectual property sector, with winning entries representing the pinnacle of domestic technological innovation.

The China Patent Gold Award was presented for the invention titled "A Functionalized Polyurethane and Its Preparation Method and Application," developed by the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This breakthrough fundamentally disrupts the long-standing monopoly held by foreign chemical giants over durable medical polyurethane elastomers, successfully overcoming the most critical bottleneck in China's high-end medical device supply chain. The China Industrial Design Gold Award went to the "EMU Leading Car" designed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., which seamlessly integrates regional cultural elements, Chinese aesthetic principles, and modern rail transit practicality. This innovative design has facilitated the successful entry of Chinese rail transit equipment into European markets, establishing itself as a shining example of Belt and Road cooperation in the railway sector.

The China Patent Silver Award was granted to the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences for its "Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) with Mode Filtering Function and Its Preparation Method." VCSEL technology finds extensive applications in high-speed communications, sensing measurements, and imaging, offering faster communication rates, higher imaging resolution, and more precise atomic manipulation, positioning it as a new productive force for future 6G communications, autonomous driving LiDAR, and quantum sensing. The core patent technology has received support from 30 projects, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's high-quality development program and key national research and development projects, attracting project funding of 293 million yuan. Thanks to the rapid preliminary examination by the Changchun Intellectual Property Protection Center, this patent was granted in just 62 days, significantly shortening the commercialization cycle of technological achievements. The China Industrial Design Silver Award was presented to FAW Bestune Automobile Co., Ltd. for its "Automobile (Bestune Little Horse)," a hit mini electric vehicle crafted with "cute, playful, versatile, and reliable" as its design philosophy, becoming a phenomenal product in the A00 market segment. With a practical range of 222 kilometers across all variants, an ultra-low energy consumption of just 8.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, and supported by FAW's manufacturing excellence, the vehicle balances safety and practicality, surpassing 200,000 units in cumulative sales and earning widespread market recognition as the preferred choice for national compact mobility.

In recent years, under the leadership and guidance of the provincial government and the Provincial Market Supervision Department (Provincial Intellectual Property Office), Changchun has persistently implemented its "Intellectual Property Powerhouse City" strategy, driven by the twin engines of IP operation city development and IP protection highland construction, optimizing innovation services across the entire chain.First, the city adheres to policy guidance and forward-looking planning, leveraging IP operation city project funds to support enterprises in collaborating with universities and research institutes on "patent navigation plus high-value patent cultivation" around its advantageous core industries, ensuring technical relevance and layout synergy of patent portfolios while building early-stage technological barriers. Second, Changchun has aggregated service resources for full-chain coverage by establishing an intellectual property service industry cluster, attracting and nurturing 114 IP service institutions spanning operations, agency, certification, integrated services, finance, and legal affairs, alongside developing specialized management platforms that deliver seamless coverage of public services, government services, and market-based services. Third, precision pre-examination services serve as a safeguard, with dedicated teams providing one-on-one tailored support and centralized review to accelerate result protection, followed by continuous post-authorization tracking and extended services to accelerate the transformation of patent value into industrial competitiveness.

Looking ahead, the Changchun Market Supervision Administration (Changchun Intellectual Property Office) will build on this achievement as a new starting point, continuing to deepen intellectual property powerhouse construction, intensify cultivation efforts around core industrial chains, and guide more innovators to prioritize patent layout and transformation. The city will optimize the IP ecosystem across the entire chain to accelerate the conversion of innovation potential into industrial competitive advantages, standardize cross-regional patent preliminary examinations for innovators within the metropolitan circle, and establish an integrated rapid IP collaborative protection system for the greater Changchun region.
