Global Market Rally Helps Swiss Central Bank Swing to Profit

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) announced a solid six-month financial performance, driven by gains in global equity markets and a weaker Swiss franc, which offset a decline in the value of its gold holdings.

In a statement released on Friday, the central bank reported a profit of 25.2 billion Swiss francs (approximately $31.2 billion) for the period from January to June.

Foreign currency assets, including a large stock portfolio, contributed 31.7 billion francs to the profit. However, the value of the SNB's gold reserves dropped by 6.4 billion francs due to a decline in the gold price.

This result follows a small loss reported in the first quarter, which was attributed to a strong franc outweighing gains from gold.
