XPeng CEO Discusses Timeline and Challenges for Humanoid Robot Mass Production

In an interview, XPeng Group Chairman He Xiaopeng addressed questions regarding the mass production timeline and associated challenges for the company's humanoid robot project.

When asked about the production schedule and key difficulties, He Xiaopeng responded, "There are many points. First, can the hardware achieve reliability and stability? Second, can high-level, multiple large models be effectively integrated? Another significant challenge is proving commercial viability. Essentially, robotics is filled with countless pitfalls, which is why it's much more difficult than automobiles. With a car, if you build it and there's no direct competition, assuming there's user demand, you can be confident it's a sellable product. With a robot, you can't say that with the same certainty."

Consequently, He Xiaopeng believes the market is also in a waiting phase: "Waiting to see if a product akin to the iPhone 4 will emerge. I believe the first commercially mass-produced robot won't even reach the level of the iPhone 1. However, the iPhone 1 was ultimately a tool; it could replace many other mobile phone tools of that era, like Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson. But when a robot emerges, it's possible that many others haven't achieved anything similar. Therefore, I think it's not a completely comparable situation."
