Protests Erupt in Albania Over Luxury Resort Project Linked to Trump Son-in-Law

Thousands of people have gathered in Albania's capital to protest against a luxury real estate development project connected to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The demonstrations are primarily targeting a multi-billion euro tourism development planned for Albania's Adriatic coast.

The protest has been dubbed the "Flamingo Revolution" due to concerns the project threatens local wildlife and a fragile ecosystem.

On June 20, 2026, protesters assembled outside the Prime Minister's office in Tirana, opposing the proposed luxury resort near a protected natural area.

Last weekend, thousands of people in the Albanian capital launched one of the country's largest demonstrations in recent years against the luxury development linked to Kushner.

On Saturday, protesters in Tirana, carrying Albanian flags and banners reading "Albania is not for sale," marched towards the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama, demanding his resignation and chanting slogans against the Socialist government.

On Sunday, protests also erupted in the western city of Vlorë, marking the 22nd consecutive day of demonstrations.

The central demand of the protests is opposition to the planned multi-billion euro tourism project on Albania's Adriatic coast, which is backed financially by Kushner's Affinity Partners investment firm.

What began as an environmental protest has now evolved into a broader public outcry over opaque real estate deals and alleged government corruption.

Aerial photos show protesters gathered in front of the Prime Minister's office in Tirana on June 20, 2026, opposing the luxury resort development near a nature reserve.

The development project on Albania's southern coast is accused of threatening habitats for wildlife, including flamingos, and the local fragile ecosystem, leading to the protest being called the "Flamingo Revolution."

The Albanian Prime Minister has publicly defended the Kushner-linked project and rejected calls for his resignation.

Rama stated that the core reason for the heightened protest sentiment is not the project's potential environmental impact but rather the fact of Kushner's investment involvement.
