Lupin Ltd. has announced the US market launch of a generic injectable version of Merck & Co.'s drug, which is designed to reverse the effects of certain muscle relaxants, after securing approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

The Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company stated on Thursday that the FDA has approved its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Sugammadex Injection in 200 mg/2 mL and 500 mg/5 mL single-dose vials.

Lupin noted that the product is bioequivalent to Merck's Bridion and is indicated for reversing neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium and vecuronium in adults and children aged two years and older during surgical procedures.

This launch comes roughly one week after US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would begin imposing tariffs on imported generic drugs starting in August 2028. The tariff is set to increase to 100% after a two-year transition period and then to 200% after an additional year, with the aim of encouraging pharmaceutical manufacturers to move production to the US.
