The S&P 500 fell on Tuesday as Wall Street awaits any progress on trade deal negotiations.
The broad market dropped 0.4%, while the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.5%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded around the flatline.
Stocks came under some pressure as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent failed to detail further progress on trade deals in remarks from the White House. Bessent noted substantial talks with Japan and reiterated again a deal framework could be close with India. But Bessent had no further details on China and wouldn’t confirm if negotiations were even taking place with the country.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that Amazon's announcement that it will include the price of tariffs on the pricetag for products is a hostile act.
Leavitt said she had just spoken to President Donald Trump about the Amazon announcement and that his message about it was: "This is a hostile and political act by Amazon."
Amazon shares dropped more than 2% iin morning trading.
