On May 7th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Under-Forest Economy Industrial Park was held in Ruili City, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. This initiative signifies a major step by the local government to leverage ecological advantages, unlock the potential of under-forest economic activities, and promote the transformation and upgrading of highland characteristic agriculture. It is expected to inject momentum into increasing incomes for border residents and achieving comprehensive rural revitalization. Located on the China-Myanmar border, Ruili City, with its rich biodiversity and unique climate conditions, is gradually becoming a "natural treasure trove" of tropical germplasm resources. The newly launched industrial park is being developed under a new collaborative model involving government, research institutes, and enterprises. The Ruili municipal government is providing overall leadership, the Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau is supporting infrastructure development, several research units including the Yunnan Dehong Tropical Agricultural Science Research Institute and the Ruili Station of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences are offering technical support, and the Ruili Farm Group Co., Ltd. is responsible for market operations and full-chain development.

The project encompasses a total planned area of 5,840 acres, utilizing a "core area + expansion area" spatial layout. A core area of 840 acres will be established at the Yunnan Dehong Tropical Science Research Institute. This will be developed in phases to include facilities such as a coffee research and seedling trading negotiation room, a seedling breeding base, a multi-layer under-forest economy plantation featuring a "rubber + dendrobium + coffee" model, and the "China Coffee Seed Industry Enhancement and Technology-Driven Full Industry Development Project." The expansion area, covering 5,000 acres, will focus on creating large-scale, standardized under-forest economy plantations, complemented by improved infrastructure like integrated water and fertilizer systems and land remediation.

The park will fully utilize the space beneath rubber tree canopies, concentrating on four high-value specialty crops: under-forest coffee, dendrobium, medicinal herbs, and cocoa. The aim is to transform ecological resources into developmental momentum, creating a complete industrial chain that integrates scientific research, breeding, cultivation, processing, and the convergence of agriculture, forestry, and cultural tourism. Chen Chao, Secretary of the Ruili Farm Community Party Committee, stated, "We have already gathered over 30 suitable cultivation varieties and formed a 15-member expert service team to focus on solving critical 'bottleneck' issues related to seed sources. This ensures full-chain technical support from source to end-point, providing scientific and technological backing for the high-quality development of the industrial park."

It is understood that upon reaching full operational capacity, the project is expected to achieve an annual output value of approximately 38.44 million yuan. It is projected to promote the development of around 2,000 acres of under-forest cultivation in surrounding areas, create about 1,500 jobs, and benefit over a thousand farming households through skills enhancement and increased income from land transfers, thereby continuously amplifying comprehensive ecological, economic, and social benefits. Furthermore, leveraging the locational and policy advantages of the Dehong area of the China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Ruili plans to actively expand into South and Southeast Asian markets, facilitating outward-oriented production and sales channels.
