On October 24, value investor Duan Yongping said on a social platform that he has written covered calls across his holdings in Occidental Petroleum (OXY).
Duan noted that when Occidental Petroleum’s share price fell to around $40 earlier, he did not add to his position, saying that this showed he did not “truly understand” the company at the time. He framed his latest move in the same vein, stressing that understanding is central to his decisions rather than following others’ trades.
“If you don’t truly understand, copying someone else’s homework is also hard,” he wrote. He added: “Today I sold covered calls on my entire position; I won’t be upset if the calls are exercised.” His remarks outline a cautious approach: he refrained from buying more when the stock was near $40 and later opted to write covered calls, indicating he is comfortable with potential assignment under those options. The comments were posted via his personal account on a social platform.
