A U.S. federal judge issued a temporary injunction on Monday, halting the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros.
The ruling came from Judge Araceli Martínez-Olgín, who sided with a coalition of state attorneys general arguing that the deal would violate federal antitrust laws, potentially leading to higher prices and reduced content for consumers.
The judge made her decision after hearing oral arguments from both sides on Friday morning. Prior to the ruling, Paramount had voluntarily agreed not to finalize the transaction before July 22nd.
