During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Hebei Province saw approximately 34 million participants annually in voluntary tree planting activities, equivalent to nearly 100 million trees planted each year. This reflects a growing public enthusiasm for planting, protecting, and cherishing green spaces across the region.

March 12, 2026, marks China’s 48th National Tree Planting Day. This year, Hebei will continue to innovate voluntary tree planting methods and enhance scientific management. Efforts will focus on advancing the "Internet + National Voluntary Tree Planting" initiative, with plans to release no fewer than 2,500 tree planting activities. Members of the public can visit the National Voluntary Tree Planting website to learn about local opportunities, register online, and participate in nearby planting events.

In recent years, Hebei has explored new approaches under the "Voluntary Tree Planting+" model, integrating tree planting with ecological education, urban and rural greening, and the protection of ancient and notable trees. In the "Three North" Shelterbelt Program area, voluntary tree planting has been incorporated into project planning and implementation, supporting the broader ecological campaign. By the end of 2025, the province had established 139 "Internet + National Voluntary Tree Planting" bases at various levels.

Data shows that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, voluntary tree planting efforts contributed to the completion of 31.95 million mu of afforestation, restoration of 3.61 million mu of degraded grassland, and 26.28 million mu of "Three North" project construction. The province has largely brought desertified land under control, steadily strengthening its ecological foundation.

Public access to green spaces has continued to expand. During this period, Hebei added two national forest cities, bringing the total to nine, while also establishing 74 provincial-level forest cities and 1,045 forest villages, significantly improving the ecological landscape in both urban and rural areas.

To safeguard afforestation achievements, Hebei has fully implemented the forest chief mechanism. A comprehensive system involving 139,800 forest chiefs, 48,000 ecological forest rangers, and 1,300 law enforcement personnel has been established, supported by oversight, auditing, and evaluation to ensure accountability.

This year, the province will continue to organize voluntary tree planting activities accessible to the public and publish them on the online platform, making it easier for individuals to participate with just one click. In addition to registering online, residents may contact local tree planting bases by phone to take part. Those who plant three to five trees will automatically receive a certificate of participation. Online donations are also recognized as a form of contribution, with certificates issued accordingly. Individuals who exceed annual planting targets will be awarded honorary certificates for national greening efforts.
