Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, took to social media this afternoon to celebrate a significant breakthrough in the domestic semiconductor industry. In a video message, he confirmed that ChangXin has officially commenced mass production of LPDDR6 memory, a development that marks a major step forward for China's tech sector.
The first product to feature this cutting-edge memory will be Xiaomi's upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi 18 Fold. This device will make history as the first premium smartphone to combine both a domestically developed chipset and domestically manufactured LPDDR6 memory, showcasing the power of local innovation.
Lei highlighted the significance of this achievement by noting that LPDDR6 represents the latest standard in low-power memory, with the last generational shift occurring four years ago. He praised ChangXin for being the first to achieve mass production, calling it a remarkable feat. The new memory generation offers enhanced bandwidth, faster speeds, and improved energy efficiency, setting a new benchmark for performance.
Reflecting on Xiaomi's long-standing commitment to fostering domestic supply chains, Lei recalled that over a decade ago, the company began its efforts to advance local manufacturing partners. "Back then, we often dreamed of a day when, through the collective efforts of various companies, we could meet at the pinnacle of technology," he shared. "Today, that dream is steadily becoming a reality."
Lei described the collaboration between Xiaomi and ChangXin on LPDDR6 as merely the starting point. He expressed confidence that more Chinese technology companies will rise to prominence in the future, leading to stronger partnerships and greater accomplishments across the industry. "I believe there will be even more Chinese tech enterprises that can distinguish themselves and forge powerful alliances," he concluded.
