Russia's April Pipeline Gas Exports to Europe Fall 1.7% Year-on-Year

Preliminary calculations released on Monday show that the average daily supply of natural gas delivered to Europe by Russian energy giant Gazprom via the subsea TurkStream pipeline fell by 1.7% in April compared to the same period last year, reaching 41 million cubic meters. However, compared to the previous month, supplies dropped by 25.5%. This decline occurred amid supply shortages following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a passage for roughly one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, which led to significant price increases.

With Ukraine choosing not to extend a five-year transit agreement with Moscow that expired in January 2025, Turkey has now become the sole transit route for Russian pipeline gas to Europe.

Calculations based on data from the European gas transmission organization ENTSOG indicate that the total volume of Russian gas delivered to Europe via TurkStream last month was 1.23 billion cubic meters, down from 1.25 billion cubic meters in April 2025.

For the first four months of this year, export volumes increased by 7.3% year-on-year, reaching approximately 6.2 billion cubic meters.

According to calculations, following the shutdown of the Ukrainian pipeline route, the company's gas exports to Europe plummeted by 44% last year to just 18 billion cubic meters, marking the lowest level since the mid-1970s.
