As of May 1, the Tibetan Hospital in Zekog County, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, has developed 214 types of self-made Tibetan medicines, with 104 included in the national medical insurance catalog. Three traditional formulas have been recognized as prefecture-level intangible cultural heritage. Leveraging its high-altitude ecology and ethnic medicinal characteristics, the hospital has received awards including National Advanced Unit for Grassroots Traditional Chinese Medicine Work and Provincial Base for Tibetan Medicine Culture Education. Zekog County has integrated Tibetan medicine into its overall development plan, utilizing unique high-altitude medicinal resources. Special support policies have been introduced, with 13.3033 million yuan allocated over the past three years to enhance high-altitude Tibetan medical services tailored to pastoral communities' health needs. Capitalizing on high-altitude geographical features, the county invested 70.92 million yuan to construct key projects such as a medicinal bath inpatient building and a Tibetan medicine preparation center adapted to plateau climates. To address dispersed residential patterns in pastoral areas, Tibetan medicine clinics now cover all townships, and 64 village clinics are equipped with essential Tibetan medicines for common high-altitude ailments, establishing a three-tier county-township-village medical service network. High-altitude diagnostic advantages are prominent, with optimized medicinal bath formulas using local herbs and 52 specialized therapies—including bloodletting and medicinal baths—for common conditions like rheumatism and joint diseases. The county Tibetan hospital offers 48 adaptive techniques, widely praised by pastoral residents. Four specialized departments were designated provincial key units, addressing historical shortages of medicines in high-altitude pastoral regions. Focusing on talent cultivation, 171 local Tibetan medicine professionals were trained through mentorship, field herb identification, and external training. A national renowned Tibetan medicine inheritance studio was established, and nine undergraduate Tibetan medicine students received tailored tuition-free education. Currently, 59 licensed Tibetan medicine practitioners and 124 village doctors in the county are proficient in diagnosing and treating common high-altitude diseases, strengthening the talent foundation for specialized development.
