GoDaddy shares tumbled 6.27% in after-hours trading Thursday following the release of the company's second-quarter financial results.

The company reported Q2 adjusted EPS of $1.83, surpassing the consensus estimate of $1.70, and revenue of $1.3 billion, slightly above expectations. Despite the double beat, the stock experienced a classic sell-the-news event, as investors locked in profits after a pre-earnings rally earlier in the week. The stock had gained over 5% on July 28 on bullish institutional expectations, but those gains were retraced during Thursday's intraday session, and the after-hours drop extended the losses.

Adding to the cautious sentiment, GoDaddy noted that the third quarter represents its toughest comparison against strong aftermarket performance in the prior year, and issued Q3 revenue guidance of $1.315 billion to $1.335 billion, roughly in line with consensus. The combination of profit-taking and a guarded outlook overshadowed the earnings beat.
