The general office of the Guangzhou municipal government recently issued the city's 15th Five-Year Plan for marine economy development, outlining fresh momentum for the expansion of marine electronic information industries.

The blueprint places clear emphasis on accelerating the production of undersea wireless communication network terminals, underwater acoustic communication devices, marine observation and detection sensors, and marine detection radar equipment.

Under the plan, Guangzhou will promote deeper integration between large satellite internet constellations and the marine economy. This involves developing satellite internet terminals and chips that are adapted to marine environments, while also establishing a satellite internet data services hub specifically tailored to ocean-related industries.

In addition, the plan calls for advancing 5G plus BeiDou integrated navigation systems and the convergence of space-air-ground-sea networks. On the artificial intelligence front, Guangzhou aims to build fundamental marine AI models, as well as specialised large models for applications such as ocean exploration, aquaculture, and shipping. The city also intends to cultivate an "AI plus marine" services and solutions industry, creating a complete industrial chain that spans sensing, data, modelling, services, and trading.
