Bitcoin Gains 2% in a Month, Trailing US Stocks: AI-Driven Capital Shift Creates Independent Market

Bitcoin's price movement has diverged notably from the US stock market, with the boom in artificial intelligence failing to lift cryptocurrencies and instead highlighting a broader trend of capital reallocation. This performance gap is stark in the data: Bitcoin has managed only a roughly 2% gain this month, while the S&P 500's market capitalization has surged by $2.1 trillion.

The underlying reason is that the recent stock market rally has been driven primarily by a handful of large-cap semiconductor and tech stocks. Without a clear leader effect, Bitcoin hasn't been able to benefit from the spillover of traditional risk-on sentiment. Market data indicates that investors are closely watching the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut expectations and the clarity of the US regulatory framework. Analysts note that, in the absence of new positive catalysts, capital is more inclined to flow toward the AI sector, which offers greater certainty.

On a microstructural level, pressure on the market is evident. Spot Bitcoin ETFs, which saw strong inflows earlier this year, have recently turned to net outflows, directly weakening buy-side support. Meanwhile, the supply of stablecoins, often viewed as the crypto market's "reserve capital," is also shrinking, further dampening potential demand. Combined with frequent regulatory enforcement actions and security incidents, institutional investors have adopted a highly cautious stance, significantly reducing their exposure until the regulatory environment becomes clearer, leading to draining market liquidity.

As Bitcoin is increasingly redefined as a store of value rather than a high-growth asset, its correlation with tech stocks is weakening. This decoupling highlights the importance of diversification, as its price drivers have reverted to internal variables such as network fundamentals, ETF flows, and regulatory decisions. In the short term, without a clear catalyst, Bitcoin is likely to remain in a consolidation range, while the stock market continues to benefit from the AI boom. The long-term outlook still depends on the evolution of the crypto ecosystem itself.
