Fuzhou Changle International Airport's Terminal 2 (T2) successfully completed its third comprehensive drill on the afternoon of August 12, ahead of its official launch. The exercise involved 1,000 simulated passengers, testing all elements, chains, and scenarios to strengthen operational readiness for the new terminal.
The drill, which began at 1:00 PM on August 12, featured 1,000 simulated passengers carrying luggage, who entered the terminal in batches to replicate daily travel scenarios and maximize the simulation of real passenger flow. It included 31 simulated flights, covering both domestic and international departure and arrival processes, as well as three types of transfer services: international-to-international, international-to-domestic, and domestic-to-international.
To enhance routine operational capabilities, the drill also incorporated scenarios such as remote stand operations, flight delay and cancellation handling, last-minute gate changes, and services for passengers with reduced mobility. This aimed to further refine response capabilities in special situations and comprehensively test the stability of T2's equipment and the scientific nature of its procedures. Additionally, a medical emergency response drill was conducted to assess the rapid response and coordination among different units.
Focusing on the entire passenger journey, the drill examined all aspects of travel, including check-in, baggage drop, security screening, boarding, arrival, baggage claim, and transfer connections at T2. Key passenger flows and service points were evaluated and refined to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance service quality. Customs and border control agencies participated throughout the process, jointly testing international entry, exit, and transfer procedures to ensure smooth and efficient cross-border travel.
Notably, this drill also served as a comprehensive stress test for T2's smart facilities. Core hardware and software, including passenger self-service kiosks, intelligent baggage handling systems, AI-based video analysis and alert systems, and 5G wireless communication terminals, were deployed in a live operational environment to assess the terminal's system integration capabilities and operational reliability.
Following the drill, Fuzhou Airport will address any issues identified, continuously optimizing workflows, refining service standards, and improving emergency plans. Prior to T2's official launch, the airport will conduct another large-scale comprehensive drill, applying high passenger flow scenarios, a full range of subjects, and stringent standards for a final extreme stress test to ensure a smooth and stable opening.
