According to sources familiar with the matter, Eric Trump is planning to visit Tokyo next month as part of his family's further expansion into the cryptocurrency industry. One source indicated that the son of the former U.S. President plans to attend the shareholder meeting of Japanese Bitcoin asset management company Metaplanet Inc. on September 1st. The source requested anonymity as the information has not been made public.

Metaplanet is a hotel operator that began pivoting toward Bitcoin investment early last year and has accumulated Bitcoin worth over $2.1 billion. In March of this year, the company appointed Eric Trump as a strategic advisor. The company has followed the model of Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy Inc.

Over the past 12 months, Metaplanet's stock has risen more than 700% in Tokyo, though it has fallen back by half from its mid-June peak.

Metaplanet shareholders will vote on new financing methods at the September 1st meeting, which Eric Trump plans to attend. His Tokyo visit will follow the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong on August 28-29.

In recent developments regarding the Trump family's entry into the cryptocurrency space, an obscure Las Vegas-based company with origins in biotechnology and fintech announced a $1.5 billion deal that would transform it into a holder of virtual tokens upon completion—including tokens issued by Trump's World Liberty Financial company.

Additionally, Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates the loss-making Truth Social platform, raised over $2 billion earlier this year to purchase Bitcoin.

Last week, the Financial Times reported that American Bitcoin Corp., a cryptocurrency mining company backed by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., is seeking potential acquisition targets in Asia to accumulate digital assets. According to the report, the company is looking to acquire a Japanese listed company and potentially companies in Hong Kong, citing sources familiar with the matter.

On August 18th, Japan's Financial Services Agency approved the issuance of the first yen-denominated stablecoin as the country's interest in cryptocurrency continues to grow.

Japanese lawmakers, including Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato, will speak at the digital asset forum WebX2025 in Tokyo on August 25-26.
