The U.S. Department of Justice is examining the strategies of the streaming giant Netflix as it reviews the company's proposed agreement to acquire a studio from Warner Bros. Discovery and the HBO Max streaming service.

A subpoena seen by the publication indicates that the Justice Department is inquiring with competitors about whether Netflix has engaged in anticompetitive conduct. The subpoena was issued to another unnamed entertainment company.

In the subpoena, the U.S. Department of Justice asked: "Please describe any other exclusive practices by Netflix that could reasonably be viewed as reinforcing market or monopoly power."

The U.S. Department of Justice is also reviewing Paramount's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Warner has urged its shareholders to reject the deal.

A Netflix spokesperson said via email: "We are not aware of any investigation into our business outside of the standard merger review process."
