During a recent event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared the latest developments in autonomous driving, Optimus humanoid robots, and artificial intelligence.
At Tuesday's All-In Summit, Musk provided updates on his companies' progress through a video address.
Regarding the Optimus robot, Musk revealed that Tesla is finalizing the design of "Optimus 3." The Optimus 3 will feature "hands as dexterous as humans," indicating sophisticated hand design and "AI thinking" capable of understanding reality. Musk also stated that Optimus 3 will enter mass production.
He emphasized the challenges Tesla faces in scaling Optimus robot production, outlining how the company must create supply chains from scratch. However, he added that Optimus has the potential to become "the greatest product ever." He also mentioned that when the robot reaches the milestone of one million units per year in production, manufacturing costs will decrease to $20,000-$25,000 per unit.
Musk previously indicated that Optimus robots could represent over 80% of Tesla's future value. The company has also released its latest "Master Plan IV," signaling Tesla's shift in focus toward artificial intelligence and robotics technology.
AI5 Will Be a "Massive Leap" from AI4
Musk stated that the next-generation AI5 autonomous driving chipset will represent a significant upgrade from the current AI4 chipset. "AI5 improvements will be 40 times better than AI4," Musk said, adding that it will feature nine times the memory and eight times the computational power.
Musk also expressed confidence that the current AI4 chip can achieve autonomous driving safety 2-3 times better than humans and enable vehicles to have "perception capabilities."
Tesla recently discontinued its Dojo project, which was responsible for internal chip development. The company has also signed a $16.5 billion agreement with Samsung Electronics for AI6 chipsets.
Starlink Smartphones and Starship
Following SpaceX's acquisition of Echostar's SATS AWS-4 and H-block spectrum licenses for approximately $17 billion, Musk was asked about potential Starlink smartphones.
"Phones need some hardware modifications," Musk explained, to connect to Starlink frequencies. He added that the company is also developing satellites designed for smartphone connectivity and is collaborating with smartphone manufacturers. Musk also hinted that Starlink might acquire mobile carriers in the future.
Musk further stated that unless major issues arise, SpaceX's Starship V3 version "will demonstrate full reusability next year, capturing both the booster and the spacecraft."
Grok-Version Wikipedia?
Regarding artificial intelligence, Musk revealed that xAI is training its Grok model to correct errors and "remove false information" from training data sourced from "books, PDF files, and websites."
Musk said Grok will be able to rewrite information through "corrections," which led to questions about Grokipedia, a Grok-enhanced version of Wikipedia, which Musk described as potentially "interesting."
