Tencent Holdings Ltd (00700) has announced a significant capital return initiative, revealing that it repurchased 226,000 of its shares on September 1 for a total consideration of HK$100 million.

According to the company's official filing, the buyback was executed as part of its ongoing share repurchase program. In addition to the buyback, the company also issued 870 new shares on the same date, which were allotted following the exercise of share options under the 2023 Share Option Scheme adopted on May 17, 2023.

This move underscores Tencent's strategy to enhance shareholder value through active capital management. The repurchase reflects the company's confidence in its long-term growth prospects, while the option exercise indicates continued employee participation in the company's equity incentive plans.
