Nvidia Corp. is reportedly in the final stages of negotiating a $20 billion investment in OpenAI as a key component of the AI developer's latest funding round, which would represent the chipmaker's largest single commitment to the ChatGPT creator.

The investment from Nvidia is approaching completion, according to sources who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions. However, the agreement remains subject to change as final terms have not been solidified.

Both OpenAI and Nvidia have declined to provide official comments regarding the potential investment.

OpenAI's current funding initiative aims to secure up to $100 billion, with substantial contributions expected from major technology corporations. Amazon.com Inc. has reportedly engaged in discussions about a potential $50 billion investment, while SoftBank Group Corp. has explored contributing up to $30 billion.

Despite being central figures in the artificial intelligence revolution, the partnership between Nvidia and OpenAI has recently faced increased examination following reports of underlying tensions. A previously announced plan from September, in which Nvidia proposed investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI, allegedly encountered obstacles due to internal reservations within the chip manufacturer.

Executives from both organizations have subsequently reaffirmed their dedication to collaboration. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, during his recent visit to Taipei, emphasized the company's intention to participate in the upcoming financing round, describing it as an exceptional investment opportunity that could potentially become their largest ever.
