Shanghai Customs reported on August 17, 2026, that the city's ship exports for the first seven months of the year reached 40.09 billion yuan, marking a 64.1% year-on-year increase. High-end vessels, including liquid cargo ships and large container ships, accounted for 83.9% of the total.

As a key hub for high-end marine equipment in China, Shanghai boasts a comprehensive industrial chain encompassing R&D, design, assembly, core components, and supply chain services. Surveys indicate that the city's major shipbuilders are currently operating at full capacity with a robust order book, with some production schedules extending into 2030.

In recent years, Shanghai Customs has focused on critical links in the shipbuilding supply chain, adapting to trends in digital design and intelligent manufacturing for large vessels. It has continuously refined its processing trade supervision model to support the industry's transformation and upgrade, aiming to accelerate the development of a globally competitive cluster of high-end ships and marine engineering equipment in Shanghai.

On June 17, a shipment of imported valve remote control systems was transported under the supervision of Shanghai Pudong Customs to the dock where a QC-Max type ultra-large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier is under construction. This vessel, built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., began construction on June 9 and is currently the largest membrane-type LNG carrier worldwide to have received certification from a major classification society.

Delivery of large container ships is also accelerating. On July 23, Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. delivered its independently developed 14,000 TEU large container vessel from the "Kun" series, setting a new record for the construction cycle of single-fuel large container ships at the dock, with a timeline of one month for empty testing, 1.5 months for sea trials, and 2.5 months for delivery.

From the commencement of the ultra-large LNG carrier to the record-breaking delivery of the "Kun" series container ship, Shanghai Customs has enhanced the alignment between processing trade supervision and shipbuilding processes through regulatory innovation, digital empowerment, and precise services.
