The rally is primarily fueled by the company's impressive Q1 earnings report, which showed net profit surging 108% year-over-year, significantly exceeding market expectations. Operational efficiency improved with gross margin reaching 29.2% and capacity utilization climbing to 79%.
Additionally, UMC is experiencing a recovery in pricing power, with Q1 average selling prices rising 8% year-over-year and Q2 prices expected to increase a further 5% to 7%. The company also recently launched a 14nm eHV FinFET technology platform for display driver ICs, which offers 40% power reduction and 35% chip area savings compared to previous processes, strengthening its competitive position in specialized mature nodes.
