WRC 2026 Spotlight: Swancor's Peng Wenzheng Says the Industry Has Moved Past 'Can We Build Robots?' to 'Dare We Enter the Consumer Market?'

At the 2026 World Robot Congress (WRC 2026) on the afternoon of August 22, Peng Wenzheng, the lead developer of Swancor's Qiyuan Q1, showcased the team's advancements in consumer-grade smart technology and introduced the personal robot, the Qiyuan Q1. Peng asserted that in the current embodied intelligence sector, "the hardware body is no longer the primary bottleneck," with the more significant challenges lying in "strong hardware, weak intelligence" and a lack of ecosystem content. He noted that global robot designs are converging, emphasizing that "the industry is not in an era of 'can we build robots,' but rather in an era of 'dare we enter the consumer market.'"

Regarding the path for robots to reach the consumer level, Peng proposed three stages: the first involves technical experimentation and novelty, the second focuses on content creation and B2B applications like reception and commercial performances, and the third is the exploration of real-world application scenarios to achieve practical value. "The true endgame is to collectively explore this third curve," he stated.

In terms of product design, the Qiyuan Q1 ensures consumer safety through its compact size and full-body compliant force control. Its movements can be interrupted at any time, it can be guided by a very light force without a remote control, and the exterior is completely screw-free. Additionally, more than 95% of the Qiyuan Q1's shell is customizable, and the team plans to fully open-source the entire machine's schematics, allowing users to achieve a "thousand machines, thousand faces" concept via 3D printing. Peng expressed a desire for more partners to join in strengthening the embodied intelligence sector.
