Trading activity picked up in the afternoon session for CSOP AI Bottleneck (03499), with the fund climbing more than 4 percent. At the time of writing, it was up 3.95 percent to HK$8.165, with turnover reaching HK$14.64 million.

Market chatter points to a key industry development driving the move. Sources revealed that lead times for critical components used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment have now stretched to more than double their previous duration, signaling a deepening supply shortage across the sector. One industry insider noted that even if component makers were to expand capacity today, it would already be too late to satisfy present demand levels. The same source added that uncertainty surrounding the eventual end of the AI-driven semiconductor supercycle is holding back upstream suppliers from committing to aggressive capacity expansion investments.

The significant extension of component delivery schedules serves as fresh evidence of the extreme tightness gripping upstream bottleneck segments within the AI computing supply chain. CSOP AI Bottleneck, which listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on September 17, stands as the world's first ETF tracking the Solactive Asia AI Bottleneck Index. The fund offers investors exposure to leading semiconductor companies across the Asia-Pacific region. The "bottleneck" designation within its name refers to firms occupying critical positions within the AI infrastructure supply chain.

Looking at the index composition, the top three heavyweight constituents are Samsung Electronics, TSMC, and SK Hynix. Additional major holdings include MediaTek, Advantest, Tokyo Electron, Kioxia, Hitachi, Delta Electronics, and Murata Manufacturing.
