Special Topic: 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30)

During the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Belém, Brazil, a dialogue was held with Tiago, External Affairs and ESG Manager of Great Wall Motor (GWM) Brazil.

At COP30, GWM provided 100 new energy vehicles to support the transportation needs of delegations, including 90 Tank 300 Hi4-T (plug-in hybrid), 5 Haval H6 (plug-in hybrid), and 5 Wey Lanshan (plug-in hybrid) models.

"In 2020, only about 1% of new cars sold in Brazil were new energy vehicles, mostly hybrids. However, since companies like GWM entered the market in 2023, the penetration rate has surged to approximately 7.5% last year," Tiago noted. He emphasized that Brazilian consumers increasingly recognize these vehicles as technologically advanced, reliable, and effective in reducing transport-related carbon emissions.

In terms of industrial expansion, GWM inaugurated its first Latin American vehicle assembly plant in Brazil this August, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units. This facility strengthens the company’s local supply chain and manufacturing presence, enhancing price competitiveness in the Brazilian market.

"Currently, we produce hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and traditional fuel models. GWM aims to become a key player in Brazil’s new energy vehicle sector. Globally, we are committed to significantly reducing our carbon footprint by 2045, and our operations in Brazil align with providing consumers access to advanced low-carbon technologies," Tiago explained.

Public data shows that GWM has over 15 million users worldwide, more than 1,400 overseas sales channels, and cumulative overseas sales of around 2 million vehicles. The company is transitioning from pure vehicle exports to an integrated model encompassing R&D, manufacturing, supply chain collaboration, sales, and service.

Tiago highlighted that COP30 offers a platform for engagement with government agencies and potential partners on new energy technologies, hydrogen applications, and localized production. As Brazil’s electrification demand grows, GWM will continue evaluating collaboration opportunities and future investments in the region.
