Electric vehicle maker Tesla has resumed taking reservations for its long-delayed next-generation Roadster, with interested buyers now required to put down a substantial $50,000 deposit to secure their spot in line. The company is actively gearing up for the sports car's official debut, which has been scheduled for October 1st. Over the weekend, a new "Reserve Now" option surfaced on the Roadster's page on Tesla's U.S. website.

According to Tesla, securing a reservation involves an initial, fully refundable $5,000 payment via credit card. Following that first step, prospective owners must then arrange an additional $45,000 payment through wire transfer within 10 days of making the initial deposit. Tesla clarified that "the reservation is not final until we receive the wire transfer payment."

In the fine print of Roadster's terms and conditions, Tesla also noted that it can only provide an estimated purchase price at this time. "We are still determining which optional packages, features, and hardware will be available for this vehicle, so we can't confirm an exact price yet," the company stated. Tesla further mentioned that after a reservation is placed, buyers will be invited to configure their vehicle as the production date draws closer.

The company indicated that purchasers will receive an "Order Agreement," noting that "you will receive an updated Order Agreement whenever you or we make changes to your configuration." Regarding refunds or cancellations, Tesla said either party—the buyer or the company—can cancel the reservation as long as a formal "Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement" has not been executed, promising a full refund in the event of cancellation.

Just last week, CEO Elon Musk appeared on the "All-In" podcast, where he discussed the Roadster's upcoming reveal. Musk emphasized the need for a live audience at the event to prove that the demonstrations are not generated by artificial intelligence. "Success isn't guaranteed, but the excitement definitely is," he remarked on the show.
