Recent flight and hotel data from Trip.com, a subsidiary of Trip.com Group Limited (09961), indicates that as the Lunar New Year approaches, short-to-medium haul travel within the Asia Pacific region remains the preferred choice for Hong Kong residents. Popular destinations continue to include Japan, Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, while Australia and the United Kingdom are the most favored long-haul options. Short-to-medium haul itineraries account for approximately 60% of total travel, reflecting a preference for trips that combine cultural experiences with leisure vacations. Data shows the average trip duration for Hong Kong residents during this Lunar New Year period is about 7.7 days. Approximately 40% of Hong Kong travelers made bookings 31 to 60 days before departure, with nearly half booking more than two months in advance. Similar trends are observed in other markets like Taiwan (China), Singapore, and Japan, indicating travelers across regions are planning early for the long holiday to secure their ideal itineraries. Analyzing the age distribution, the 35-49 age group represents the largest segment, highlighting significant demand for family and parent-child travel. Concurrently, the proportion of younger travelers aged 18-34 and senior travelers is also showing an upward trend. Hong Kong itself is a popular destination for Asia Pacific travelers during the Lunar New Year. Data reveals that inbound visitors primarily originate from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore, with a notable increase in the proportion of long-haul travelers from the United Kingdom and the United States. Nearly 80% of inbound tourists opt for four-star hotels or above, underscoring the importance visitors place on quality accommodation experiences. Many East and Southeast Asian destinations are experiencing strong inbound growth during the holiday period, benefiting from the extended break. Vietnam, South Korea, and Indonesia are among the fastest-growing markets, with bookings for major cities like Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City, and Bali recording year-on-year increases exceeding 70%, demonstrating robust recovery momentum for tourism in the Asia Pacific region. Mainland China remains a popular destination for Hong Kong residents and other Asian travelers celebrating the Lunar New Year. There has also been a significant rise in visitors from Europe and Oceania to Mainland China, with traveler numbers from the UK and New Zealand growing by over 150% year-on-year. Key tourist cities include Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou. Additionally, Xiamen and Shenzhen have seen notable inbound growth, with increases of 60% and 90% respectively.
