WRC 2026 Live: Beijing Humanoid Robotics Center Unveils Tiangong Omni, CEO States It Will Avoid Direct Competition with Rivals

During the 2026 World Robot Conference (WRC 2026), the Beijing Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center officially launched its lightweight humanoid robot, Tiangong Omni, at a midday event on August 20th. The robot integrates hardware architecture with edge intelligence, marking it as the world's first Humanoid Native open base platform that combines perception-based mobility with whole-body general control capabilities.

At the exhibition site, Tiangong Omni stands at 1.35 meters tall and weighs 39 kilograms, with a certain level of load-bearing capacity. According to the developers, it is designed for future applications such as confined-space operations, emergency rescue, and home services. Notably, the platform offers an open secondary development system, providing access to joints, sensors, systems, and motion control APIs to lower the entry barrier and costs for developers working on foundational R&D, thereby accelerating application innovation and iteration.

In previous discussions with media outlets, including Sina Tech, the CEO of the Beijing Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center, Xiong Youjun, stated that the development of embodied intelligence is still in its early stages, with many unresolved challenges. He noted, "The entry of Omni is not too late. In the future, Omni will focus on industrial scenarios and will not replicate what other companies are already doing. Our goal is to provide a standardized platform for the industry, allowing other manufacturers to conduct secondary development on our foundation. Therefore, we are more focused on common industry challenges and key core technologies." He also emphasized that Omni will not directly compete with companies like Songyan Power and Accelerated Evolution.

Additionally, Xiong Youjun explained that the purpose of launching Omni is to offer the industry a platform with lower costs and greater suitability for mass production and industrialization. "In the future, we will invest more in the 'big brain and small brain' platforms, hoping to provide ecosystem parity in the industry's cognitive and control systems," he said.

When addressing the return on investment (ROI) of humanoid robots in factory settings, Xiong Youjun candidly admitted that their integration into such environments is just beginning. "Currently, the ROI of humanoid robots does lag behind that of industrial robots or even human labor, but this gap is narrowing rapidly," he remarked.
