Clean energy Stocks rallied in premarket trading after the Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections, an outcome seen as supporting more favorable policy for the industry.
According to Barclays analysts, the midterms result eases political risk on US renewables and supporting networks.
Investors see a Democratic wave as supportive of companies in the clean energy supply chain, including solar and batteries, at the expense of the traditional energy sector. Renewable stocks are also benefiting from a rotation away from artificial intelligence-related stocks.
JPMorgan Chase strategists had said ahead of the midterms that a “blue wave” would be encouraging for clean-energy stocks through greater support on appropriations, oversight and permitting.
Solar stocks jumped in premarket trading. Canadian Solar rose 10%; Sunrun and First Solar rose 9%; Nextpower rose 8%; Enphase Energy rose 7%; Array Technologies rose 6%; JinkoSolar rose 5%; SolarEdge rose 4%.
Hydrogen stocks also rallied in premarket trading. Plug Power rose 9%; Ballard Power and Fluence Energy rose 8%; Solid Power rose 7%; Bloom Energy, Envista Holdings, and FuelCell rose 6%; Quantumscape rose 3%.
EV charging stocks gained in premarket trading. T1 Energy rose 10%; Blink Charging rose 7%.
