Party Building Leading the Way: Multi-Sector Alliance Brings Warmth to Haidian's Solitary Seniors

In an effort to pioneer a model combining technological eldercare with grassroots governance, the Beijing Beike Foundation, operating under the guidance of the Haidian Federation of Industry and Commerce, has joined forces with several sub-districts, including Beitaipingzhuang, Wanshou Road, Qinglongqiao, and Malianwa, to steadily roll out the "Solitary Guardianship Program" across the Haidian area.

At the end of 2025, a significant Party Day event was co-hosted by the Party branch of the Haidian Federation of Industry and Commerce, the Party committee of Luozhuang Community in Beitaipingzhuang Sub-district, and the Party committee of KE Holdings Inc. During this event, the Beike Foundation officially launched the first pilot phase of the "Solitary Guardianship Program" (formerly known as the "Silver Hair Guardianship Program") in Luozhuang Community. The project adopts an integrated model of smart hardware, platform services, and accident insurance, equipping solitary elderly residents with fall detectors, voice-activated alarms, and pull-cord emergency devices. These are connected to a round-the-clock response platform capable of instantly alerting family members when help is needed.

Today, the program has advanced to its second phase in Beitaipingzhuang Sub-district, expanding its reach from Luozhuang to include neighboring communities such as Suojiafen and Jimenli. The "digital caretakers" for the elderly have evolved from a concept into unassuming devices installed at bedsides, in bathrooms, and in living rooms—always present and ready to respond.

Aunt Ruan from Suojiafen Community is one of the program's beneficiaries. Living alone with her children far away and suffering from vertigo, she faces considerable challenges in her daily mobility and home safety. Volunteers from the Beike Foundation conducted meticulous on-site assessments, scientifically selecting installation points based on her daily routines and habits. They also provided hands-on training for her family, demonstrating how to receive alerts and emphasizing emergency protocols. This approach, ensuring not only proper installation but also thorough instruction for both the elderly and their families, has earned heartfelt praise: "The sub-district and community have built us an invisible safety net, and we truly feel at ease!"

Following the success in Beitaipingzhuang, the program has expanded to sub-districts including Xueyuan Road, Wanshou Road, Qinglongqiao, and Malianwa, now serving over 350 solitary elderly households across Haidian. From the Xueyuan Road area to the foothills of the Western Hills, each device installation and drill has lessened the anxieties of living alone, replacing them with a sense of security.

Since its launch in April 2025, the Beike Foundation's "Solitary Guardianship Program" has deployed over 3,500 devices across Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai. The project is currently being promoted throughout Haidian, with plans to extend its reach to sub-districts like Balizhuang, Sujiatuo, and Xibeiwang, ensuring more solitary seniors benefit from this service.

Looking ahead, the Haidian Federation of Industry and Commerce plans to continue guiding local private enterprises in their social welfare efforts, deepening the collaboration between government, business, and community. It will support the Beike Foundation in its ongoing practice of using technology to assist the elderly, bringing both technological empowerment and humanistic care to more elderly residents in the community.
