Consumer sentiment improved in July, according to final results from the University of Michigan's monthly survey, as gasoline prices eased. The sentiment index climbed to 55.2 in July from 49.5 in June. This latest reading was up from a preliminary figure of 54.4 recorded earlier in the month.

Data from the American Automobile Association shows that average gasoline prices in July fell to $3.95 per gallon from $4.05 per gallon in June. However, recent days have seen a rebound at the pump, with prices rising back above $4.10 per gallon, which could signal intensifying inflation concerns among consumers as August approaches.

Survey director Joanne Hsu noted that while renewed conflict in the Middle East and its potential impact on energy markets loom over the economy, consumers remain primarily focused on the burden of everyday affordability. Consumers are still concentrating on economic pressures such as purchasing power, with political or military developments playing a more secondary role.
