An integrated energy storage demonstration project, designed to boost power grid resilience across multiple application scenarios in Guangdong Province, has entered commercial operation. The initiative, delivered under an EPC model led by the China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute, signifies a critical advancement in the real-world validation of diverse energy storage technologies in China.

Located in Renhe Town within the Baiyun area of Guangzhou's airport economic zone, the project was developed and funded by the National New Energy Storage System Innovation Center. It is recognized as a pilot demonstration initiative under the National Energy Administration's new energy storage program and is included in the nation's key list of major infrastructure projects. The facility features a 300-megawatt/600-megawatt-hour storage testing zone, a 110-kilovolt booster station, and supporting infrastructure.

The project emphasizes large-scale storage equipment and technologies characterized by high capacity, robust safety, extended lifespan, and superior efficiency. It is dedicated to advancing research on critical shared technologies, facilitating the transfer and initial commercial application of outcomes, and establishing the nation's first comprehensive platform integrating research, testing, pilot production, and real-world validation for new energy storage systems. This framework enables a holistic, multi-dimensional evaluation process covering the entire chain from investment and grid connection to system integration.

Once fully operational, the facility is expected to substantially enhance the operational resilience of the Guangzhou power grid and optimize its peak-shaving, frequency regulation, and emergency reserve capabilities. Additionally, serving as a top-tier national hub for industry-academia-research collaboration in new energy storage, the project will provide robust support for the standardized and large-scale advancement of Guangdong's new energy storage sector. It is poised to play a vital role in driving technological innovation, equipment upgrades, and the broader transition toward green energy in China.
