WESTCHINACEMENT (02233) saw its shares rise more than 5%. At the time of writing, the stock was up 5.44%, trading at HK$2.52, with a turnover of HK$31.69 million. The increase follows a recent announcement by the company that it has entered into a share sale and subscription agreement to acquire South Africa's AfriSam for US$145 million (approximately RMB 998 million). WESTCHINACEMENT stated that the acquisition of AfriSam's operations will expand the company's cement business and footprint in Southern Africa. AfriSam has an annual cement production capacity of 4.5 million tons, aggregate production of 5 million tons, and ready-mix concrete output of 1.5 million tons. It is one of the leading cement producers in the South African market, operating two integrated cement plants—the Ulco plant in the Northern Cape and the Dudfield plant near Lichtenburg in the Northwest Province. Both facilities are equipped with complete clinker production lines, enabling full control from raw material extraction to clinker calcination.
