STMicroelectronics Set for Second MCU Price Increase This Year, Effective June 28

STMicroelectronics NV is preparing to implement its second price increase for microcontrollers (MCUs) this year, highlighting the ongoing accumulation of cost pressures within the semiconductor supply chain and the accelerating spread of industry-wide price hikes.

According to a Tuesday report, STMicroelectronics has notified customers that a new round of MCU price adjustments will take effect on June 28th. This marks the company's second price hike in 2024, following a reported price adjustment notice circulated in late March that announced increases for multiple product lines effective April 26th, 2026.

This move is not an isolated case. Several other MCU manufacturers, including NXP Semiconductors, Infineon Technologies, and Nuvoton Technology, have recently announced price increases. Furthermore, analog IC giants Texas Instruments and NXP are reportedly preparing to raise prices between June and July, indicating an accelerating industry-wide trend of price adjustments.

Comprehensive Supply Chain Cost Increases Drive Pricing Action

Behind this wave of MCU price hikes lies a convergence of multiple cost pressures. Mature process node capacity remains persistently tight and is increasingly prioritized for higher-value products like power management ICs (PMICs) and MCUs. Concurrently, rising costs for labor, raw materials, and depreciation are elevating expenses across the entire semiconductor supply chain.

Price increases from the wafer foundry segment have already begun transmitting downstream. A May report indicated that industry insiders had suggested as early as February that Vanguard International Semiconductor would raise foundry prices for some products starting in April, with increases potentially reaching up to 15%. VIS's chairman subsequently confirmed the company had recently completed related price adjustments.

Regarding United Microelectronics Corporation, its Chief Financial Officer stated during a shareholder meeting that UMC plans targeted price adjustments in the second half of 2026, with broader customer negotiations to commence in 2027. Additionally, as many MCU products rely on NOR Flash memory to store code and firmware, the ripple effects from rising memory prices are beginning to extend into the MCU supply chain, acting as another significant driver for the current round of price increases.

The concentrated announcements of price hikes from multiple major MCU suppliers in a short period indicate that this pricing uptrend is not unilateral action by individual companies. Instead, it represents an industry-wide repricing driven by the combined forces of supply-demand dynamics and cost pressures. For downstream manufacturers reliant on MCUs, the pressure from rising procurement costs is likely to become more apparent in the coming months.
